Age 18, Grade 11

Given is last born in a family of two.  She is inspired by doctors and teachers who she says play an important role in our lives. When she grows up, she wants to be a doctor because a lot of people are suffering in our country, and particularly wants to work finding the cure for AIDS and helping young children who are diagnosed with cancer.  I want them to know they can be happy and there is hope for them.

What she likes the most about school is that school is a place where you find happiness and peace. She also likes school because she has lots and lots of friends and gets to meet new people. Her hobbies are singing, going to church, making friends, watching TV and playing basketball with her teammates at school.

"Access to the internet has benefited me in my education in such a way that I get information that I want in terms of school projects I research on the net."

   

FLORENCE JONAZI TIRANE
Grade 11, 16 years old

Florence is second born in a family of three, and has an elder sister & a twin brother. Born on Sept 1992, am 16 yrs of age. She managed to skip three grades, two at primary and one at junior secondary.

She is inspired by a lot of people in life, especially her mother, and she also gets inspired when she sees people succeed and feel happy about what they are doing.

When she completes she wants to be a medical doctor. What she likes the most about school is that she considers it a place where she can explore and dig deep for knowledge. School also empowers people.

She is christian by faith and sings in the choir (sings in an orchestra).  Her hobbies include playing baseball, playing the recorder, practising the organ, perfecting touch typing skills and reading.

"Information technology has made a major impact on me. It has enabled me get information that is valuable and beneficial to my education. I know for sure that IT Education will enable me to easily excel in my academic life and am able to communicate with distant people and my computer skills and touchtyping skills will enable me to find a job in future and not worry about going for a computer course."

CHITALU NAMFUKWE
17 years old, Grade 11.

Chitalu is inspired by computers because it is so interesting sometimes (“I wonder how it stores so much information it being such a small thing!”). Other people who motivate her are reporters and journalists on TV especially BBC.  Her hobbies are watching TV, studying, visiting friends and listening to music.

"When I grow up I want to be a journalist. I like everything about school, my teachers, the pupils and my class and the thing I like the most is the computer lab. IT has benefited me alot especialy in my education, I can study, research and it is easy to remember when you do it on the computer".

 
   

Francis Phiri
Aged 20, Grade 12

Francis attends the Special Education unit at Munali High School, which caters for 200 girls and boys who are deaf or hearing impaired. He cares a lot about his fellow deaf students and the members in the deaf community outside Munali.  As an advocate, he is the "unofficial" spokesperson for his class whenever they have issues they need to address the administrators.  He served as a prefect, and worked with his fellow pupils with their problems.  He has organized programs for his church, acting as a (signing) emcee and a preacher.  He organized an Independence Day for his fellow church members and the Munali community.

"My favourite school subject is English, I am very enthusiastic about learning more English, and improving my reading and writing skills".
